Nikolaos G. Ventouras

a lifetime of innovation

TThe first retrospective exhibition of Corfiot engraver and artist Nikolaos Ventouras and the only exhibition organised by the artist’s estate after his passing. Most of the artwork exhibited will be seen by the public for the first time.
Over 350 original pieces will be on display at the Piraeus 138 building of the Benaki Museum along with various preliminary stages and parts of the artist’s own research that will introduce the public to the world of engraving as an art and provide a glimpse into the mind of an inventive artist and scientist. The standalone catalogue that will accompany the exhibition will include the above and will serve as a starting point for Nikolaos Ventouras’ following exhibitions.
The Nikolaos G. Ventouras NGO was funded and is maintained by the artist’s estate and manages the entirety of the artist’s work, extensive archive and notes on his work, the experiments he conducted to achieve the exact idea. Nikolaos Ventouras was born in 1899 and dedicated his life, over six decades, to his art until his passing in 1990. Some of his artwork can be found in collections around the world, in both private collections and museums.
